Metric - "Help, I'm Alive"

Another Metric video. This one for "Help, I'm Alive". It's full of graphics and random visuals. And the song is a bit extended.

Also Stereogum has a cool remix posted of the song...here

They will be at the Troc June 19th.

*New development*

Metric just posted a blog about this video. Apparently it is actually a short film created by Deco Dawson who filmed Metric on tour last December.

"This is not a music video. This is a short film in an imaginary landscape and the soundtrack is "Help I'm Alive"." -Emily on Metric's Myspace blog

Metric's "Gimmie Sympathy" Video

Here's Metric's video for "Gimme Sympathy". Making a video in one take always impresses me and this one is no exception.

There's also a behind the scenes video of what was really going on during the shoot...using a split screen with the actual video. That's right here.

This electric version is growing on me. But I still think they should put out an acoustic album.

Where I can go to rest my head

I finally made the move to the city. I'm a city dweller now. I've gotten a parking ticket. I've experienced the ridiculous traffic on 76 coming home from work. I found out that the South St. diner closes at 2 am; not good for late night munchers. But every day I come home to this view from my bedroom balcony and smile.

Lily Covers Britney

Not only does Lily Allen like to sample the Carpenters...she also likes to cover Britney Spears. Stereogum posted her version of "Womanizer" over the weekend, and now most of the YouTube videos have been taken down. But the EMI music police haven't gotten this one yet...for now.

To get an actual mp3 of this...go here and grab it from Stereogum.

New Jenny Lewis tune

I am not an avid animated film follower. Yes, I did see Wall-E and did enjoy it. They are just not on the top of my list of movies to catch. So when I heard about the new Disney film, Bolt, I didn't think much of it. Just that John Travolta and Miley Cyrus added their voices to it. But what I did learn about the film is that it's soundtrack has an orignal tune by Jenny, called "Barking at the Moon", which is definitely not to be confused with Ozzy Osbourne's song of the same name.

This track sounds something like a combination of Rabbit Fur Coat and Acid Tongue, but I will leave the criticism up to the music critics and just say I enjoy it.

Nicole Atkins, East Hundred and Prowler

Wednesday was a rainy, live music filled night. First, Nicole Atkins at the World Cafe. She really is impressive. If you don't believe me, take Jenell's word for it. And although she didn't come out in the audience to sing because of technical difficulties like at the Fire...it was a great show!

Then after some scheduling changes I ended up working a Streettalkin show over at Silk City. This time we were covering one of my favorite local bands, East Hundred. Their new album Passenger is finished and can be picked up at any of their shows (their actual album release will be on January 9th at Johnny Brendas). Prowler was also on the Silk City bill and they were just as fun as the last time I saw them.

I'm finally heading out to the Note tonight. I'm hoping the things I've heard about it are true, as I have a few more shows I want to check out there in the next few weeks!

I'll leave you with a video of Nicole Atkins. This is (I believe) an unreleased song called "Teen Creep".

New Metric Album

Metric has been gone for quite awhile. Their last album, Live It Out, came out way back in 2005. Since then, Emily did her solo stuff, which was great, but now it's time to rock again. If you were one of the lucky people who saw Emily play three times (yes three times!) at Union Pool in September, you may have heard some new tunes since one of the sets was with her Metric partner Jimmy Shaw. Over at Metric's website, the band says that their new album is finished and are hoping to release it early next year. They also have a really great video on the site that has Emily performing a stripped down version of the band's new track "Help, I'm Alive".

And here's the rocked out version:

Metric will be doing a short Canadian tour in December, appropriately called the "Help, I'm Alive Tour".
